Summary: Collection consists of the papers collected by Bruce T. Ellis in his capacity as author and employee of the Museum of New Mexico and his research materials. Collected papers contain various manuscripts. Included are: the Benjamin M. Read papers (1912-1926); the L. Bradford Prince scrapbook and enclosures (1907-1915); Ellis' research materials that cover the years 1712-1956; and some records from the Museum of New Mexico, the School of American Research, the Historical Society of New Mexico, and various other New Mexico institutions (1859-1966). The Benjamin M. Read papers consist of correspondence and a manuscript. The manuscript pertains to the Honorable Francisco Perea and the correspondence includes a letter that contains George Huth's remembrances of life in the Southwest in the 19th century. The L. Bradford Prince scrapbook and enclosures consist of clippings that discuss the founding of the Museum of New Mexico, the School of American Research, the Historical Society of New Mexico, and other New Mexico organizations. Ellis' research materials contain copies and originals of New Mexico documents, plats, and an incomplete work concerning Fort Marcy in Santa Fe, New Mexico (1853-1959); Alois B. Renehan's real estate investments (1903-1925); documents concerning the identity of Billy the Kid; and papers concerning the architecture of the Palace of Governors and Santa Fe (1712-1756). Records of the Museum of New Mexico, the School of American Research, the Historical Society of New Mexico, and other New Mexico organizations include reports, pamphlets, and publications (1859-1966). Also included are: a partial inventory of Read's collection of historical documents; a version of the Bible from the late 19th century inscribed by Prince; a copy of a catalog of photographs of North American Indians (1877); Demetrio Perez's manuscript concerning Santa Fe Archbishop Jean Baptiste Lamy; and Ellis' manuscript on the St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
